Romanian Justice and Human Rights >>> News >>> Heads of Romanian intelligence services resign over missing businessman
Jul 20, 2006
The heads of the Romanian Intelligence Service, Foreign Intelligence Service, and the Information and Internal Protection Directorate resigned on Thursday evening, following a meeting with Romanian President Traian Basescu.
The reason for this collective resignation is the fact that Omar Hayssam, a Romanian businessman of Arab descent, who has been charged with terrorism, is missing and the Romanian authorities lost track of his whereabouts.
The resignation of Radu Timofte (SRI), Gheorghe Fulga (SIE) and Virgil Ardelean (DGIPI) was immediately accepted by President Basescu. If Hayssam is not found by tomorrow, he is to be searched by the international services.
